I used to be obsessed with DSOs (deep space objects, galaxies, nebulae and stuff), and I still am to some degree, but I've learned to appreciate the wider shots lately. The main reason is that it's not hard to do untracked, for example, a 205mm lens, in the DSO imaging range, can take 1 second exposures before the stars trail and the detail disappears, where as an 18mm, perfect for milky way photos, can take up to 10 seconds long exposures before trailing. That increase in light gathering makes it possible to shoot with lower ISO, making the image less noisy. Plus, almost everyone has a wide angle lens in their pockets, with a phone!
TODO I've gotta finish this shit, talk about the milky way, star trails and stuff, and show off with my ugly pictures.
